Winter Christmas greetings from the hot bicycle country Uganda Most warm greetings from us all that share with you all your efforts to support this project despite all other things and budget for your own upkeep, and we think about you in a special way and thank you for everything. Bicycle sponsorship project and workshop is a Ugandan non-partisan Organisation co-founded by Jugendhilfe Ostafrika e.v. Germany whose mission is to enable the majority of Ugandans living in Uganda in abject poverty with a per capita income of only about US§ 170, own bicycle at a subsidised cost. In our 8 years of operation in 17 districts of Uganda, 4,817 bicycles have been distributed to 4,817 poor beneficiaries directly who use them to initiate, implement and sustain projects to create household incomes. The 4,817 bicycles have also played a very big role in Uganda´s economy as many people use these bikes other then the 4,817 direktly from the workshop, e.g. bicycle taxis. We are very excited about our efforts to contribute to Uganda´s economy with your support. This year fate led the theft of 12 bicycles from our project. This incident illustrates how important a bycycle is to the life of a Ugandan. You can imagine how these people would risk their lives for a bicycle. In order to avoid a repeat of this risky game for the people, we intend to shift the workshop to a safe and secure location close to the Mombasa-Kampala highway. This will be an opportunity to make the BSPW internalised. In the new place, our office will require some equipment like a fax machine, computers, photocopier/photoprinter, a telephoneline e.t.c. which though not affordable by our project are extremly important for our operations locally and globally, ours being the only project in Africa where bicycle are sponsored and bicycle information is documented under our arm FABIO. Currently, BSPW in a one stop centre for research students from Germany. Getting hooked to the internet benefits their pursuits here. Certain areas of Uganda today are affected by civil wars, e.g. Northern and South Western areas. BSPW intends to alleviate the suffering of the population in these areas by initiating a poverty elimination credit scheme for Women and Youth in particular. Next year we shall require more bikes then the 317 distributed this year. This year we have been able to network with the following Organisations here. We have contacted DED Kampala which has facilitated a number of plannned activities for the year. Staff training, Capacity building workshops for our bicycle beneficiaries and other contacts through the office. We have been supported by Supply and Demand Uganda (Holland) with a number of bikes. Deniva is our training organiser. We are grateful to our benefactors on behalf of all beneficiaries. We have been invited to the Velo-City conference next year to share our aspirations with bikes here, we plan to combine this with a fundraising tour in Europe for our project. It will be very nice and kind of you if you could invite us to your towns and cities for the slide shows while interacting and collaborating with you. We kindly appeall to you to contribute towards our upkeep during our stay in Germany. We will be happy to meet you and learn from each other. HAPPY X-MAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR
