from Richard Kisamadu
The first half of 1998 heve been a period of remarkable achievments, we recieved a set of a computer from a Germany friend, thirty five bicycles were donated to us by Supply and Demand Uganda, which boasted our activities in the past months and three volunteers who did a tremendous work. Nonetheless the security situation in some parts of western and nothern Uganda have not been the best. There have been abductions, masacres, land mining of roads, a more recent is the burning of 80 students in Kichwamba, and abduction of school going children in the North by the Lords´ resistance Army of Sudan. Only this weekend, ADF raised Kasese Town, killing over 18 people, burning over 20 motor vehicles and over 10 logde rooms. However, the bicycle has remaining a dominant means in the region as its the only means of transport used to ferry foodstuffs, peope, to health centres, since people could not risk their vehicles for fear of being ambushed and hit by the land mines. With the acquisition of the legal status, this has enabled us to embark on soliciting for funds to suplement our activities especially for FABIO activities. At this moment I would like to particulary register our thanks to a German Development Organisation (DED), who heve continued extended a helping hand, and this year, it has co-financed two seminars on capacity building for our clients, one in Tororo ond Iganga for the districts in Eastern Uganda. Also, it has extended a hand in stuff training, where the project administator, and the accounts assistant have so far benefited, this will improve on the efficiency of the project in service delivery. Although we have had some achievments this half, as we face the challenges of the future, we must undertake changes in the way we are organised and in the way we transact business, this therefore calls for concerted afforts in order to overcome them. Currently, we are accomodated in a small place. We would like to acquire a more spacious place and we have lodged in applications to various donors., we are yet to receive replies. We have already identified the premises with developments on. Also, there is in general lack of office equipment for FABIO programmes, hence a need for general funding for same. The bicycle has continued to dessert vehicle in our third world especially Asia and Africa. This is because of the poor infrastructure especially the roads, coupled with the subsistence economy. This makes the bicycle the dominant means of transport which can transverse the unaccessible plains of the countryside. Let me on behalf of the management committee and the beneficiaries,
pledge to you our sponsors that our vision for this organisation is to
make it more leaner, efficient, effective, and more responsive to the needs
and wishes of the members who will applaud us when we prevail and correct
us when we fail. Let me take this opportunity to thank you for your tireless
efforts for supporting the very need for a living individuals and the community.
